Obsessions
April 30, 2007 at 5:02 pm | In knitting, memes, mommy blogs | 5 CommentsI saw this meme while reading Udandi & the Craft of Money and knew I had to participate.
I feel the meme deserves some Grey’s Anatomy-esque monologue, but I just don’t have that kind of skill, so here it goes, my latest 5 obsessions:
1. Blogs. You knew that didn’t you. I wish I could find remember the first blog I stumbled onto. At first they were just knitting ones, mainly found through that first blog. Hubby just upgraded Office and there is an option to get the RSS feed reader in the email. He nearly blew a gasket with all the feeds I have. (Edited to say I ditched the email feed reader–TOO SSSSLLLOOOWWWW) There are knitting blogs, craft blogs, mommy blogs, twin blogs, money/frugal blogs, foodie blogs, organizing blogs. If I aspire to it, I’m sure there’s a blog about it in my RSS feed.
2. Knitting. Knit, purl, yarn, patterns, blogs. There is a new yarn shop in town. I make a trip there at least once a week mainly to look, though they have been winding skeins for me lately too. I won’t admit how much my shopping carts have in them at the Loopy Ewe & KnitPicks! Socks, sweaters, stitch patterns, oh my! There are so many creative knitters out there, EZ, Barbara Walker, the Yarn Harlot, and man all those great bloggers!
3. ABC TV. Not every show, but enough to say I watch it almost every evening. (Yes, I know it is turn off the TV week) Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars are the shows I would hate to miss. Lost: I don’t trust Juliette, why isn’t Kate preggers yet, and what is up with the black thing & the mysterious box that gives you what you want?
4. Oatmeal Bars. I found a recipe on Recipezaar and then two weeks later the same recipe turned up in the April Family Fun Magazine. They are SOOOOO yummy. We make them at least twice a week. I make them for me the kids. Our favorite add-in is mini chocolate chips.
5. Harry Potter. Hubby & I are reading the series again in anticipation for the July release of book 7. Here is what I think: Harry is a horacrux, Harry and Voldemort will die, and I really forgot alot of what I read the first time. Right now I am starting book 4.
A runner-up for #5 is Cheese-Its, but ONLY the Cheddar-Jack kind. I bought a new box on Saturday and I discovered they were not the right kind. I was so bummed.
A little bit of nothing….
February 20, 2007 at 7:34 pm | In knitting, literacy, mommy blogs, socks | No CommentsKatrina of Cadipiller Days, sent this fun timewaster site my way today. It really is too beautiful to be inside blogging, but yet, here I am creating fake book cards! Test the card creator out and see what you can find in your library. Let me know what kind of cards you create!
I started another pair of socks last Thursday and I am 2/3 complete already. Wow! I’m working on Child’s First Sock, from Knitting Vintage Socks by the amazing Nancy B. It is so cool to do a lace pattern. I fear yo’s no more! Sunshine Hubby was looking at them and says, “They look really good…except you have all these…holes or something.” DOH!
I have been doing some knitting reading lately too. The first book was The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. Great book, not great intellectual reading, but filled with knitting snipets from EZ and Montose Staley amoung others. It could be a little overwhelming to read if you’ve lost a loved one lately, but still a great read.
The other knit lit book I just finished was The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs. FANTASTIC book. The ending through me for a loop and had me choked up. It was another lite reading kind of book that had me ignoring the housework more than I ususally do in order to finish the book.
About the sweater avoidance, I checked out Kara’s blog today and just LOVED her completed Central Park Hoodie. I might be moving in the direction of knitting a sweater…. Then again, good quality yarn is so expensive. ![]()
Blog, blog, blog, bloggity, blog, blog.
December 20, 2006 at 2:24 am | In Blogs, Christmas, mommy blogs | 1 CommentHow do mommy bloggers do it? Housework, kids, and blogging almost everyday, even with the holidays looming? I was introduced to crafty blogs today–like I need more blogs on the RSS feed!–via Rocks in My Dryer. So now there is crafty goodness to make me feel like I am getting NOTHING done. Check it out, there are even a few knitting goodies in there!
Stay tuned for a Sunshine Fam holiday blog. Designed to be the next “hottest” thing in holiday cards. Yeh, right. Anyway, we’ll see. Maybe before New Year’s. :)
We enjoyed some yummy hot cocoa with Homemade Marshmallows today–can’t wait to read the blogging about it ZigZag Mommy. There was much discussion about their lack of roundness during dinner tonight. Sunshine Brothers seemed envious of their pal for getting to enjoy ”A LOT” of marshmallows. I loved the shape, like igloo blocks for your cocoa! Thank you for our treat. It makes me wish I had saved a couple of the 7 6 layer bars to go with it. I did add it do my coffee and yummmmm. Thanks again!!
Welcome to the Land o’ Sunshine
September 30, 2006 at 6:58 pm | In Blogs, knitting, literacy, mommy blogs | 1 CommentI know, I know…another blog. I was introduced to the world of blogs by my friend Mandy. Mandy taught me how to knit and so my introduction to blogville through the knitting world. Since then I have branched out into “mommy” blogs.
Let me tell you, I L.O.V.E. blogs. Mommy blogs, fiber blogs, book blogs, and cooking blogs. I enjoy looking at the style of blogs and reading all the different types.
So what will this one be about. Witty, informative, and insightful. Ok, I’m kidding. I’m sure it will be the more mundane things in life. Parenting, knitting, reading, Usborne books, and life in general.
Since I have that out of the way, let me introduce the Sunshine Family. There is me, Sunshine Mommy, Sunshine Daddy, and our three little Sunshines (Sunshine Bro #1, Sunshine Bro #2, and Sunshine Sis).
